Melissa ISD has hired four dedicated virtual instructors to support Melissa elementary students attending virtual school this year. Hannah Nance, Kayla Rogers, and Jennifer Rodriguez will serve students according to their grade level. Whitney Smith will provide additional support for students in special education.
The virtual instructors will be the primary point of contact for Melissa elementary students and parents/guardians regarding educational content, attendance, the Schoology platform, and the Edgenuity program. Contact information can be found below and in the Help Center on the following page: Guidance for Virtual Online Learners. Virtual office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday on days that school is in session.
Introduction: “Hi, my name is Hannah Nance and I’m beyond thrilled to be joining the Melissa family. I graduated from University of Texas at Dallas with my bachelor’s degree in Child Learning and Development and Psychology. Outside of teaching, my favorite things to do are travel and watch sports. I look forward to meeting and working with you all this school year. Go Cardinals!”
Introduction: “Hi, my name is Kayla Rogers and I am so excited to be a part of the Melissa ISD family. I have my Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Western Governors University. I’m a born-and-raised Texan and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. I’m a wife to a Navy sailor and a dog mom to a seven-month-old Labrador. I love being outside and exploring. Second to that, traveling is my next favorite thing to do. Whether it be inside the states or outside, I enjoy being in a new area and learning the different cultures. I’m excited to join this journey with you and help you in any way that I can.”
Introduction: “Hello, my name is Jennifer Rodriguez and I am so excited to be joining the Melissa ISD team as a virtual teacher. I obtained my bachelor’s degree from Texas Woman’s University and I am certified to teach all general courses from 4th to 8th grade. I am also certified in CPR/AED. I come from a career in healthcare, which I loved. I love working with kids and knowing that I can have a direct influence on a student. I am a proud mother of two wonderful boys that make every day an adventure. I am married and actually settled down pretty close to Melissa almost a decade ago. I am so excited about all of the things we will accomplish together this school year, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Once available, a phone number for Ms. Smith will be shared directly with families by the Special Education department.

We lived in Melissa for over 10 years and just recently moved out into the country in Blue Ridge. I have a bachelor’s degree in Special Education and a master’s degree in Secondary Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce. This will be my eighth year teaching some form of special education and I can’t wait to take it virtual. Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with you and the children of Melissa ISD! Go CARDS!”
