Melissa High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers Rick Gagarin and Heather Lane each received a Recognition of Excellence award at Region 10 ESC’s CTE Summer Conference last month. This award recognizes CTE teachers that excelled within their CTE cluster.

Gagarin and Lane prepared students to pass exams in AP Engineering, Autodesk Certification, and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) PowerPoint. Both had high success rates on the exams, proving their ability to teach content while preparing students to test for applicable industry certifications.

Please join us in congratulating Gagarin and Lane, and thanking them for their dedication to moving our students forward!

From Eon Meusa, Region 10 Consultant:

“Rick Gagarin was the founding instructor of the MISD STEM program in 2007, and has been instrumental in developing a top-notch program for MISD including an AP Engineering option with exam, which gives students the ability to be eligible for college credit. This year, 24 STEM students passed the AP College Engineering Exam. This was testament to his ability with students, while ensuring rigorous and relevant content has been learned. He also saw an opportunity for students to take the Autodesk Inventor Certified User Exam. 10 of his students passed this industry recognized exam. Mr. Gagarin has also worked tirelessly in pursuing opportunities for students from various industry experts, such as the City of Melissa, Raytheon, L-3, Bronco MFG and Texas Instruments. Based on Mr. Gagarin’s outstanding performances and sincere commitment to excellence, it is with great honor we award him.

Heather Lane’s classroom management style, technical course knowledge, and effective delivery strategies are worthy of regional praise. Her willingness to ensure that her students were prepared for the MOS certification exam was reflected in her students high pass rate of 86%. Ms. Lane has been teaching at Melissa ISD for 4 years and is a career business education teacher who will begin her 25th year this August. Mrs. Lane is also the head girls’ basketball coach at Melissa High School. Based on Ms. Lane’s outstanding performance in and out of the classroom and her sincere commitment to excellence, it is with great honor we award her.”
