Melissa High School juniors Justin Berkeland and Jacob Gallimore have qualified in Duo Interpretation for the University of Kentucky’s prestigious Tournament of Champions.

Berkeland and Gallimore are the first ever Tournament of Champions qualifiers from the Melissa High School UIL & Debate program. They will compete in April against debate students from public and private schools across the country.

“This is a testament to their hard work and dedication,” said UIL & Debate Coach Kyle Brenner. “Going forward, Ms. Moore and I look forward to qualifying more and more students to this tournament.”

Berkeland and Gallimore also qualified in Duo Interpretation for the National Speech and Debate Association’s (NSDA) National Tournament, in addition to Drew Richardson in Lincoln Douglas Debate, and Hallie Crain and Clayton Ashley in World Schools Debate.

These students will represent Melissa High School at the NSDA National Tournament in June.
