Melissa High School athletes sign letters of intent

Melissa High School student athletes Amanda Kocsis, Gunnar Murphy, and Alfonso Viramontes signed letters of intent to their respective colleges as part of National Signing Day on Wednesday.

Girls’ Athletic Director Claude Webb, Lady Cardinal Soccer coach Manuel Avila, and Boys’ Athletic Director and Cardinal Football coach Seth Stinton introduced the athletes, speaking to their athletic achievements, records, and college plans.

Coaches and fellow teammates joined Kocsis, Murphy, and Viramontes as they each signed in the Melissa High School gym.

Amanda Kocsis signed her letter of intent to play soccer at Loyola Marymount University. She plays Forward for the Melissa Lady Cardinals. Kocsis was named District 5-4A Offensive Player of the Year for 2016, Second Team All-State Forward, and Team Offensive Player of the Year for 2014 and 2015. She is the Melissa High School Career Goals Leader with 89 goals.

Gunnar Murphy signed his letter of intent to play football at Southwest Baptist University. He plays Tight End and Linebacker for the Melissa Cardinals. Murphy was named All-District Utility Player of the Year and First Team All-Texoma Tight End.

Alfonso Viramontes signed his letter of intent to play football at Texas A&M Commerce. He plays Offensive Line for the Melissa Cardinals. Viramontes was named All-District OL and All-Texoma OL.
