Melissa High School announces first annual community-wide Homecoming Celebration

The Melissa High School 2017 Homecoming football game is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 8 at Cardinal Stadium, where the Melissa Cardinals will take on the Lake Worth Bullfrogs. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Earlier that week on Wednesday, Sept. 6 is the first annual Melissa Homecoming Celebration, a three-part community-wide Cardinal event.


All of the following events will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 6.


The community is invited to tailgate beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the designated areas in front of Cardinal Stadium and Melissa Middle School. Questions regarding tailgating can be directed to Duke Sparks, Director of Community Outreach at Melissa Schools, at or 972-837-2411.

Homecoming Parade

Melissa’s first Homecoming Parade begins at 6:30 p.m. with a theme of “Beat the Bullfrogs” and prizes awarded to the top three decorated floats. Community member and long-time Cardinal fan, Helen Browning, will serve as the grand marshal.

Businesses, organizations, and clubs are invited to register a float for the parade. Registration is free and can be completed online at The parade registration deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 5.

The parade will begin on Cardinal Drive between Kaufman and Lubbock, continue northeast on Cardinal, turn right onto Scott, left onto Barker, left onto Surrey, left onto Cardinal, and end in front of the high school, before Haskell. To see a map of the parade route, visit

Community Pep Rally

Following the Homecoming Parade is a community-wide pep rally at Cardinal Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m.
