The community kicked off Homecoming festivities on Wednesday at the Melissa Homecoming Celebration. This is the second year that Melissa High School has organized the three-part community-wide celebration.
Festivities began with food and fun as various groups set up to tailgate north of Melissa Middle School.
The community then gathered along Cardinal Drive to enjoy the Melissa Homecoming Parade, featuring over 30 decorated floats by student groups and local businesses. Among the student groups represented were band, volleyball, football, cheerleading, cross country, and the 2018 Homecoming Court.
Ronny Williams, former football coach and athletic director at Melissa High School, was the parade grand marshal. Harry McKillop Elementary students Cannon Dittfurth and Ellie Puckett were the Homecoming Prince and Princess.
The top three decorated floats were announced after the parade, during the community-wide pep rally at Cardinal Stadium.
The varsity cheerleaders won first place. Second place went to the second grade flag football team and cheerleaders, sponsored by Jason Barbee. Third place went to the senior football players.
