Students in Alyssa McClure’s second grade class at Harry McKillop Elementary are enjoying a new classroom library thanks to a generous donation from DonorsChoose.org.
DonorsChoose.org enables public school teachers across the country to list specific classroom needs, and anyone interested in funding those needs can provide a donation.
McClure submitted a request for a classroom library area and received word in March that her request was fully funded.
McClure unveiled the library to her students Wednesday morning. The new space includes bookcases, benches, lounge seating, and area rugs, and it already houses baskets full of books.
“My students are excited about reading in the new library,” said McClure. “They are discovering the fun and excitement of good adventure novels and are thrilled that they have a special place to get comfortable. It is awesome to see them get so excited about reading.”
