Students in 3rd grade through 11th grade at Melissa Schools will participate in STAAR testing in May. Please see below for important testing dates and other information specific to your child’s school and grade level.
Students should get a good night’s sleep and have a healthy breakfast prior to testing.
Students in Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade do not test.
Students in 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade are encouraged to bring a water bottle, book to read after finishing the test, and any snacks or mints that they may want throughout testing. The most important goal is for students to take their time and try their best.
Testing begins early – please be on time.
On testing days, both campuses will be closed to visitors and volunteers.
Snacks must be contained in a ziplock bag and choices that are not noisy or distracting, such as chips. Drinks are limited to bottled water and no more than two bottles of water will be allowed in the testing rooms.
On May 9, Algebra 1 students will not have athletics before school and need to report to the cafeteria by 8:30 a.m.
On May 14 and May 15, 7th grade students will not have athletics before school and need to report to the cafeteria by 8:30 a.m. On May 16 and May 17, 8th grade students will not have athletics before school and are to report to the cafeteria by 8:30 a.m.
Testing will include students who have been unsuccessful on prior attempts of these end of course exams and need to retest. Please refrain from scheduling any appointments during this time, if at all possible.
Melissa High School received a waiver from the State of Texas to allow late arrival for non-testing senior students on Thursday, May 10, due to the fact that much of the campus will be testing that day. Senior students who are not taking EOC exams in Biology and U.S. History on Thursday, May 10 shall arrive late that day, in time for the start of 5th period at 12:50 p.m.
