The Melissa High School Lady Cardinal wrestling team traveled Saturday to the Frisco Wakeland High School tournament to compete against fourteen 5A and 6A teams.
The Lady Cards took fifth place overall. Individually, Hastings Fredrick and Viki Dietrich placed second, Lilly Rogers placed third, and Ashley Vasquez placed fourth.
Rogers was the high point wrestler for the Lady Cards, leading the team with 16 total points. Also wrestling for the Lady Cards were Queen Humphrey and Yesenia Paulin.
“The girls are improving each week, getting ready for the district tournament coming in early February,” said coach Rick Gagarin. “I am confident we will have several girls advance to the regional tournament.”
The Lady Cardinal wrestling team competes next at a district duel on Tuesday at Lovejoy High School.
