The Melissa High School Lady Cardinal Wrestling team traveled to Bryan College Station last Friday and Saturday and placed eighth out of 27 regional teams, hoping to make it to state.
Wrestlers winning by pin, and their tournament record for the team, were Camille Bogdan, 2-2, Whitney Legg, 1-2, Makayla Watson, 2-1, Lilly Rogers, 2-2, Jessica Gonzales, 1-2, and Alyssa Rose, 2-2.
Gonzales placed sixth while Watson, 2nd place, and Rose, 4th place, advanced to the state tournament this weekend.
“This was a great experience for our young wrestlers,” said Coach Rick Gagarin. “They were able to compete at the highest level across the region, and now a couple of wrestlers are at a high enough level to compete against the best in the state.”
