Melissa High School Lady Cardinal Softball started district play Friday with a 9-0 win at home against Anna.
Natalia Cox brought the heat against Anna during her outing. Anna managed just one hit off of Cox, who allowed no earned runs, walked only three and struck out six during her seven innings of work.
Melissa scored six runs in the opening three innings. A two-run home run by Bailey Church and a two-run single by Peyton Monson in the first inning supplied the early offense. Rebecca Pittman boosted her batting average, thanks to a perfect 3-3 day at the plate, to pace the Cards. She homered in the third inning and singled in the first and sixth innings.
The Lady Cardinals pushed across two runs in both the third inning and the fifth. Pittman’s home run scored Church and a bases loaded walk scored Macey Stewart.
Your Lady Cards have starting district play 1-0 and have an overall record of 11-9.
Melissa will play at Quinlan Ford Tuesday, March 22 with the JV playing at 4:30 and Varsity at 6:00.
The Melissa JV started district with a 15-0 run-rule win and also have a district record of 1-0.
