Krissy Womack has been selected to serve as the principal of Harry McKillop Elementary beginning this summer, as Walter Perez moves into his new role of Director of Elementary Education.
Mrs. Womack received a unanimous recommendation last week by the interview committee and was endorsed by the Melissa Schools Board of Trustees at a special board meeting Thursday morning.
Mrs. Womack has served as the assistant principal at Harry McKillop Elementary for the last two years. Prior to that, she was a teacher at the school for nine years, teaching Kindergarten and third grade. In 2017, Mrs. Womack was named the Teacher of the Year at Harry McKillop Elementary.
“It is a tremendous honor to serve our community as principal of Harry McKillop Elementary. I believe the heart of HME focuses on doing what’s best for all students and empowering them to reach their full potential. I am proud to be a part of the Melissa ISD family, and to continue to work alongside Mr. Perez in his new role. I am passionate about helping HME continue its strong history of academic excellence.” – Krissy Womack
Walter Perez added, “Mrs. Womack is the perfect fit for HME as we transition into new leadership. When I think about her, she radiates the core values that Melissa ISD holds. Mrs. Womack has a servant’s heart. She has a passion for student success and growth. She communicates with honesty, instills integrity in our staff, and demonstrates outstanding leadership qualities. Mrs. Womack will enrich HME as we continue to aim high for success.”
Keith Murphy, Superintendent of Melissa Schools, shared insight into the interview process for a school administrator, which is led by Dr. Robert Rich, Deputy Superintendent. Mr. Murphy also shared his support of the committee’s selection of Mrs. Womack.
“As the Superintendent, I am not necessarily involved with the first part of the interview process; I normally come in at the end, reflect with the committee, and ask them for their thoughts and how they felt about the process that was led by Dr. Rich,” Mr. Murphy said. “At the conclusion of the interviews for this position, it was obvious that the committee members were pleased with the process and excited about the recommendation. I have to say that there were a lot of quality applicants for this particular position and it is my understanding that all four finalists had great interviews.”
“I am thrilled to death for Krissy Womack and the staff at Harry McKillop Elementary. Mrs. Womack was a master teacher and a highly successful assistant principal. The comment I’ve heard most about Mrs. Womack is that she has a passion for kids and the community of Melissa.” – Keith Murphy, Superintendent
Melissa ISD is currently in the process of evaluating options for the new assistant principal of Harry McKillop Elementary.
