Melinda Keen and Joel Stanford joined the Melissa Middle School administrative team in August, each stepping into the role of assistant principal. Mrs. Keen serves as the 7th and 8th grade assistant principal to Marcus Eckert, while Mr. Stanford serves as the 6th grade assistant principal to Trey Smith at the Sixth Grade Center.
An educator for 17 years, Melinda Keen previously served as a secondary teacher, coach, and athletic coordinator. She earned her Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin State University.
“I am honored to have been selected to join Team Melissa as the assistant principal of Melissa Middle School,” said Keen. “Mr. Eckert and staff, along with Mr. Murphy and his team, have made me feel like part of the Cardinal family from day one. I am excited about the year and look forward to much success here at MMS.”
Principal Marcus Eckert added, “What an honor it is to introduce the new MMS Assistant Principal, Melinda Keen, to the Cardinal community. Mrs. Keen is the epitome of an inspiring, hard-working, and student-centered leader. Her fresh perspective and innovative ideas have already positively impacted our campus. Melissa Middle School continues to attract quality educators and leaders from across the state, and Mrs. Keen is a great addition to the Cardinal family.”
An educator for 22 years, Joel Stanford previously served as a secondary teacher for general and special education, in addition to coaching for a number of athletic programs. He earned his Master of Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce.
“It is an honor for me to have the opportunity to be a part of such a great community and school district here in Melissa,” said Stanford. “The year has gotten off to a great start at the Sixth Grade Center. I am looking forward to working with Team Melissa in the continued success of Melissa ISD.”
Associate Principal Trey Smith added, “Mr. Stanford embodies all things ‘Team Melissa’ and has spent the last 20-plus years in our great profession, putting kids first. We are so excited to have Mr. Stanford at the Sixth Grade Center; he is truly an asset to our learning community.”
