The Melissa High School varsity girls’ wrestling team traveled to Carrollton RL Turner High School last week to compete at the district tournament, where four Lady Cardinal wrestlers qualified for the regional tournament.
The team consisted of Viktorya Dietrich, Queen Humphrey, Ashley Vasquez, Lilly Rogers, and Hastings Fredrick.
Regional qualifiers included Viktorya Dietrich in fifth, Queen Humphrey in fourth, Hastings Fredrick as district runner-up, and Lilly Rogers district champion.
“The girls wrestled hard and most qualified for regionals,” said coach Rick Gagarin. “Hastings Fredrick met a state-ranked girl and wrestled impressively for three rounds until finally getting pinned. All these girls have improved so much over the season.”
The Lady Cards travel to the district tournament this Friday, Feb. 16 at Bryan High School in College Station.
