The first annual Harry McKillop Elementary Reading Festival is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. featuring books, music, theatre, and more!

Walk the Book Harvest with a pumpkin patch of books, including the 1,000 new arrivals that came to the school in October. See a helicopter landing, fire trucks, and ambulances, and enjoy hot dogs grilled and served by the Melissa Fire Department.

Plus, watch “The Shiny Gold Button” play presented by parent Colin Wells.

Dress Up as a Storybook Character

Families are encouraged to dress up as their favorite storybook character. Thing One and Thing Two from Cat and the Hat will be golf cart escorts.

Teachers as Storybook Characters

Teachers will dress up, too! See the following storybook characters from 5:45 – 6:30 p.m.

  • Pre-K and SPED: Pete the Cat
  • Kindergarten: Fancy Nancy
  • First Grade: Laura Numeroff Characters
  • Second Grade: Many Versions of Cinderella
  • Third Grade: Polar Express

  • Food Trucks (Arete, Lihoudie’s & Cross My Heart and Hope for Pie)
    • 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Front Parking Lot
  • Colin Wells presents “The Shiny Gold Button”
    • 6:00, 6:15, and 6:30 p.m in the Library
  • Geppetto’s Marionette Theatre presents “Hansel and Gretel”
    • 6:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria
  • 1,500 New Books Available for Checkout
    • 6:30 p.m. in the Library
  • Hot Dogs from the Melissa Fire Department
    • 6:30 p.m. in the Courtyard (across from the Cafeteria)
  • Helicopter Landing
    • 5:45 p.m. in the Front Parking Lot
