Free & Reduced-Price Meal Program

Students who qualified for the free and reduced-price meal program for the 2019-2020 school year will hold their status through Oct. 5, 2020; after that, they must reapply to receive free or reduced-price meals at school. To renew your student’s free or reduced-price meal status for the 2020-2021 school year, please complete a new application as soon as possible.

Sept. 14, 2020 – Letter to Parents/Guardians

The Child Nutrition program at Melissa Schools offers free and reduced-price meals for students who meet the program qualifications. For qualifying students, a reduced-price breakfast meal costs 30 cents and a reduced-price lunch meal costs 40 cents. Students who qualify for free meals will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost each school day.

Who qualifies for free or reduced-price meals at school?

Free or Reduced-Price Meals:

  • If the child’s household gross income is within the limits described in the Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines, as described in the application.

Free Meals:

  • Children in households receiving benefits from SNAP, FDPIR, or TANF.
    • SNAP – Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
    • FDPIR – Food Distribution Program for Households on Indian Reservations.
    • TANF – Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
  • Foster children under the legal responsibility of a foster care agency or court.
  • Children participating in Head Start or Early Head Start.
  • Children who meet the definition of homeless, runaway, or migrant.
  • Some WIC recipients.

How can I apply for my child to receive free or reduced-price meals?

The free and reduced-price meal application is linked at the top of this page. Printed copies can be requested from any Melissa ISD school.

Qualifying families are required to complete a new application each school year in order for their child to receive free or reduced-price meals at school. Families with multiple school-aged children are only required to complete one family application each school year.
