In the message below, Mr. Perez and Mrs. Nally respond to the outpouring of community support regarding the flooding situation at the Melissa Ridge Education Center.

Dear Melissa Families,

Within hours of Melissa ISD announcing that the Melissa Ridge Education Center had become largely unusable due to widespread flooding, the Melissa community began brainstorming ways to help. We know that we can always count on our community to support our teachers and our schools: this is the true spirit of Team Melissa. Even still, we are incredibly touched by the outpouring of kindness and generosity that we have witnessed over the last 24 hours, especially considering the current circumstances related to this week’s winter weather-related events.

Melissa ISD is aware that there is a community movement underway to help meet the needs of our MREC teachers. In order to help streamline community response efforts, we kindly ask that these efforts be coordinated in partnership with school officials.

A dedicated email address has been created to exchange ideas and coordinate community response efforts related to the Melissa Ridge Education Center. If you are interested in fundraising, donating items, sponsoring classrooms, or have other ideas that you would like to share, please send an email to (Please note that fundraising for the Melissa Ridge Education Center through online crowdfunding platforms is discouraged at this time, as the school would not receive 100% of the proceeds.)

Melissa ISD is in “triage mode” at the moment, and there are still many unknowns, as school officials continue to assess the situation at the Melissa Ridge Education Center and determine the next steps for school operations. We will take care of our teachers and their classroom needs as quickly as we can, but we will also welcome outside support.

Parents and guardians of students who attend the Melissa Ridge Education Center are asked to monitor their alerts from the school, as well as the Melissa ISD website and social media, for the latest information and updates. As a reminder, students who attend in-person school at MREC will attend school remotely from Feb. 22-26, 2021. Click here for more information.

Once again, through this moment of adversity, we have the opportunity to continue forward together as one Team Melissa.
