The Melissa High School Cardinal Track and Field team competed last weekend in the UIL Region 2-4A Track and Field Championships at Texas A&M Commerce.

The Cardinals took 13 boys to the regional meet and finished 3rd overall in the team standings with 62 points. That more than doubles the highest point total ever, of 26, for the boys at the regional meet. Additionally, the Cardinals set three new school records.

The Cardinals have qualified four boys in six events for state; qualifiers include Elijah Mackey, Cole McCraw, Jabray Young, and Gunnar Murphy. This doubles the most boys ever to qualify for the state meet in the same season.

“I am extremely proud of all of boys and the heart and determination they showed,” said Coach Travis Roberson. “We had an amazing weekend and will look to keep the momentum going in Austin.”
