Soccer: Lady Cardinals advance to regional quarterfinals Friday

The Lady Cardinal soccer team plays in the regional quarterfinals on Friday against Castleberry. The game will be held at Goldsmith Stadium in Lewisville starting at 6:00 p.m.

Tennis: Cardinals, Lady Cardinals compete at district tournament

The Cardinal and Lady Cardinal tennis teams recently competed at the district tournament and came away with a number of medals.

John Lewis and Justin Mercer were named district champions. Zach Butterfield took third place in the Boys’ Singles, while Lilly Hubbard and Aubre Grantham took third place in Girls’ Doubles.

Overall, the Cardinals took second place and the Lady Cardinals took third place.

Track: Cardinals compete at WT White Longhorn Invitational

The varsity and junior varsity boys’ track teams competed at the WT White Longhorn Invitational on Thursday, March 29 where the Cards were among 28 participating teams. The varsity Cardinals finished in second place as a team with 94 points.

Melissa High School was one of two 4A schools participating, the rest being 5A and 6A schools. The boys compete next at the district meet on April 4-5.

Softball: Lady Cardinals finish 3-2 over Celina

The Lady Cardinal softball team finished with a 3-2 walk-off victory over Celina on Tuesday. The game was tied at two with the Lady Cardinals batting in the bottom of the seventh when Macy Stewart singled on a 3-2 count, scoring Audrey Solomon from second base.

Alexis Pevehouse earned the win, striking out 13 while only allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. Pevehouse doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring Kylee Brakebill for a 1-0 lead. Pevehouse, Audrey Solomon, Kylee Brakebill, Jaclyn Rodgers, and Stewart all had one hit to lead Lady Cardinals.
