Families of Melissa Schools,

Our new school year is in full swing and we are most thankful to you for sharing your precious Cardinals with us! We witnessed excitement and many gleaming smiles at every campus during our first four days of the 2022-2023 school year. It is wonderful to see our ever-growing community and infrastructure continue to expand.

We greatly appreciate your patience, cooperation, and support during school arrival and dismissal as we continue to make small adjustments to improve efficiency. With each new school year, there are hiccups from time-to-time while we all settle into a new routine. We encourage you to work with our campus personnel and administrators to help ensure that all our Cardinals remain safe when arriving to and departing from school each day. In partnering with the City of Melissa, the Melissa Police Department, and local businesses, we have put plans in place to provide the safest-possible environment for students and staff alike.

Below are some important safety reminders as we continue the second week of school:

  • Become familiar with school procedures and remember that those established procedures may change in response to unexpected weather or traffic events.
  • Follow the designated traffic patterns, routes, and city and school signage, some being time-specific.
  • Stay aware of students using crosswalks.
  • Do not use your cell phone in school zones.

As one final thought, we want to echo the sentiments of Mayor Jay Northcut and the City Council that were shared in last week’s edition of The Melissa Minute newsletter: "School zones are operational, and drivers are cautioned to maintain proper speeds and avoid distractions. Our Police Department is especially vigilant during the first several weeks of the school year, so please remember to slow down and pay attention."

Thank you again for your partnership and enthusiasm. It’s going to be an amazing year, “The Cardinal Way”!
