student works to repair air conditioning unit

Melissa ISD is accepting applications through April 15 for the summer 2023 session of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Student Workforce carousel program.

The 10-week program offers high school students the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience in technology infrastructure, plumbing, construction generalist, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). In order to participate, students must meet the program requirements and submit an online application, which can be accessed by visiting www.melissaisd.org/studentworkforce. Only 20 spots are available for the summer 2023 session.

Students accepted into the Student Workforce program will work two assigned 10-hour days per week during the summer break from school, and will receive on-the-job training and instruction led by Melissa ISD employee mentors. Students will also participate in three “lunch and learn” sessions with Crossland Construction Company and learn about postgraduate opportunities of construction apprenticeship available through Crossland.

Upon program completion, students will receive $1,500 and a work-based learning credit, with the opportunity to earn an industry-recognized safety certification from the OSHA Education Center.
