Melissa High School senior, Andru Wilson, was selected to perform with the All-State Small School Mixed Choir and named first chair in the tenor section, after competing at the district, region, and area levels.
All-State is the highest honor that a Texas music student can receive. Andru is one of 1,795 students selected this year through a process that began with more than 66,800 students from across state. Less than three percent of musicians who initially audition become All-State musicians.
As part of the competition, Andru performed portions of “For Us There is No Other Help but Thee” by Pavel Chesnokov and “Kyrie” by Nicola Porpora. He was also required to sight-read eight measures of music with only 30 seconds to practice.
The All-State Small School Mixed Choir will perform at the 2020 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic and Convention on Feb. 15, 2020 in San Antonio.
Andru Wilson is a member of the Melissa High School choir and sings under the direction of Ryan Smith and Adrianna Iennusa. This is Andru’s second year to place in the All-State Choir.
