Walter Perez has been promoted to serve as the Director of Elementary Education at Melissa Schools, beginning this summer, after serving for three years as the principal of Harry McKillop Elementary.
Perez has over 20 years of experience in elementary education, including as a school administrator and a teacher. During his tenure as principal at T.J. Austin Elementary in Tyler ISD, Perez was named the 2015-16 Elementary Principal of the Year by the Texas PTA and the 2014 Professional of the Year by the Tyler Hispanic Business Alliance.
“Three years ago, my family and I joined Team Melissa and began this amazing journey – without a doubt, a most joyful chapter for us,” Perez said.
“Being a part of the superlative #HMEproud team has been a blessing and the best professional experience of my career. I will be forever grateful to this community for the opportunity to serve as the principal of Harry McKillop Elementary. I am very honored and humbled by my new task of impacting students as I work alongside the Melissa elementary staff.” – Walter Perez
Robert Rich, Deputy Superintendent of Melissa Schools, added, “Mr. Perez has a proven track record of successfully leading elementary campuses across several school districts. Now that Melissa ISD has multiple elementary schools, with more to come, he is the logical choice to lead those endeavors.”
Kim Boedeker, Executive Director of Academic Leadership, added, “Having worked alongside Mr. Perez for the past three years, I am confident his expertise will bring so much value as he oversees the three elementary campuses. His passion runs deep for the success of our community, staff, and students. This opportunity for him to have a larger impact will be one that we will all benefit from.”
Perez will continue as principal for the remainder of the school year and assume his director position this summer. Melissa ISD is currently in the process of evaluating options for the new principal of Harry McKillop Elementary.
