The Melissa High School tennis team recently competed in a three-day tournament, where student-athletes Megan Carr and Brandon Shipes were named consolation champions in the mixed doubles. Melissa finished sixth out of 14 teams overall.

JV team competitors in the boys’ doubles were Wilson Gustaveson and Noah Strickland, Ben Coco and Zach Smith, Landry Haven and Jack Brown, and AJ Gonzales and Landry Burwell.

Varsity singles competitors were Lilly Hubbard, MacKenzie Wilke, and Bryan Williams.

Varsity team competitors for the boys’ and girls’ doubles were John Lewis and Justin Mercer, Dawson Mercer and Tristan Clark, Sierra Thomas and Chloe Wirey, and Julianna Garlin and Skylar McCaskill.

Mixed doubles teams were made up of Brandon Shipes and Megan Carr, along with Zach Butterfield and Sarah Keeton.

“I was really pleased with the effort our kids gave,” said coach Brad Crawford. “We were playing against some really tough competition from the kids in Allen, Midlothian Heritage, and Kaufman, but we hung in there and played them well. We’re getting better all the time.”

The team will work through the winter in preparation for the spring season. The spring schedule will be posted at www.melissaisd.org/athletics/tennis.
