Team Tennis triumphs at Princeton tournament

The Melissa High School Varsity Tennis team traveled to Princeton on Thursday and Friday for a long and thrilling tournament.

On Thursday, boys and mixed teams competed and came away with two medals. In the boys’ doubles division, Brandon Shipes and John Lewis came home with a gold medal after defeating Anna 8-1, Farmersville 8-2, and Leonard in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-5).

In the mixed doubles division, Madison McCombs and Justin Mercer played hard after losing the first round against Anna 6-8, to come back and win the consolation bracket.

On Friday, girls’ doubles came away as the consolation champs, losing 2-7 to Van Alstyne, and then beating Farmersville 8-2 and Whitesboro 8-2.

The next tennis tournament will take place in Anna on March 16 and 17.
