The Teacher Spotlight is a weekly piece where we feature our leaders at Melissa Schools. Check back each Monday to meet a new teacher!

Our first ever Teacher Spotlight shines on Laurel Ross from Harry McKillop Elementary, nominated by Principal Leanne Bush. Ms. Ross teaches Kindergarten and this is her second year in Melissa.

Fun Facts:

  • Her entire family went to Kenya last Summer.
  • Her family attends Pine Cove Family Camp every Summer.
  • She is a big Dallas Mavericks fan!

When and why did you decide that you wanted to become a teacher?

I decided that I wanted to become a teacher in the 2nd grade. My teachers blessed me in many ways and I love being with kids!

What is your favorite lesson to teach?

I love teaching children to read for the first time. The confidence they gain and the joy in their smile is priceless!

What is your favorite Core Value and why?

Hope is my favorite Core Value because that is what I can give to my students as they begin their journey in Education.

What is the best thing about being a Cardinal?

The best thing about being a Cardinal is the community we share. Schools, families, and members of the community truly love to care for and serve one another.

Congrats to Laurel Ross! She is an amazing teacher and person!!! My granddaughter, Anna Reyes, had her last year and it was very evident just how much she is admired and loved by her students, as well as their parents!!!! She seems to have a very special gift, in the exceptional way she relates to her students & motivates them to reach & learn! We feel blessed that Anna was one of her students!
