The Teacher Spotlight is a weekly piece where we feature our leaders at Melissa Schools. Check back each Monday to meet a new teacher!

This week’s Teacher Spotlight shines on Heidi Thompson from Melissa Middle School, nominated by Principal Jim Miller. Mrs. Thompson teaches Spanish I and this is her sixth year in Melissa.

Fun Facts:

  • I have a handsome husband and two beautiful daughters.
  • I love to travel and have been to many Spanish-speaking places.
  • I lived in Mexico and studied a semester at a Mexican University during college.

What is your favorite lesson to teach?

I love to teach about different cultures. I love lessons that really make the students think. I also love to play silly Spanish songs and then hear the students singing them in the halls.

What is your favorite Core Value and why?

Hope is my favorite Core Value. Without hope, none of the other values can become a priority. Students must have hope for a bright future and a better self. Once they have that hope, you can get them to work on everything else.

What is the best thing about being a Cardinal?

Working with intelligent, dedicated, passionate people.
