Melissa High School band students recently auditioned for a spot in the ATSSB Region 24 All-Region Honor Band along with hundreds of musicians from more than 20 area schools.
A record 23 students earned a chair in the band with 14 of them also earning Area Honor Band recognition. This is the highest number of students to achieve both of these honors in school history, and a 40 percent increase over last year’s numbers.
Melissa High School All-Region Band members will attend a two-day clinic in January at Princeton High School and perform a free concert for the public at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, also at Princeton High School.
Melissa High School All-Region Band students include: Kealey Poole, Yadira Valdez, and Kayla Galbraith on flute; Emma Piyakhun on oboe (1st chair); Jasper Murphy on clarinet; Matthew Golden on bass clarinet (1st chair); Priscilla Adejokun on Contra-Bass Clarinet; Jack Greer and Ariana Valdez on alto sax; Tyler Wilson, Bryce Norwood, Sam Whitten on trumpet; Verah Banasky and Seth Russell on french horn; Caeleb Fender and Jacob Gallimore on trombone; Cale Hayes on bass trombone (1st chair); Nathan Serna on euphonium; Dalton Bayless on tuba; and Collin Caldwell, Aaron Vaughan, Mary Margaret Jordan, and JiQuez Byas on percussion.
Melissa High School Area Band members will audition for the All-State Band on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Argyle High School.
