Melissa Schools welcomes Eric Benton as the new head coach for boys’ basketball at Melissa High School, beginning with the 2016-17 school year.

Benton has served at Lorena High School for the last six years as the head coach for boys’ basketball and cross country, along with teaching English II and Professional Communications.

Throughout his last six years at Lorena High School, Benton led his boys’ basketball teams to win the titles of District Champions, Area Champions, Regional Quarter-Finalist, District Runner-Up, and Bi-District Qualifier.

Of his new position at Melissa Schools, Benton said, “I’m humbled and honored to have been chosen to lead the Melissa basketball program and be a part of Cardinal Nation. I know that Melissa High School has a reputation for both high academic standards and athletic performance. I’m excited to be a part of the school and the community. Go Cards!”

Seth Stinton, Boys’ Athletic Director at Melissa Schools, spoke Friday of Benton’s selection and how he will positively shape the boys’ basketball program.

“The Melissa Athletics Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Eric Benton,” Stinton said Friday. “Coach Benton will bring his passion and energy to the team, and will continue to build a program that revolves around building relationships with our players, their families, the school faculty, and the community. He is an extremely encouraging coach that stresses relentless enthusiasm for basketball and the success of student athletes.”
