Melissa Schools will offer baseline ImPACT testing for students for the first time next week. ImPACT testing sessions will be held Aug. 1-3 at Melissa High School in the computer lab at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.
ImPACT testing is free of charge for Melissa students. This opportunity is open to any student enrolled in an extracurricular activity – including athletics, cheerleading, and band – at Melissa High School or Melissa Middle School.
Baseline ImPACT testing is optional, but recommended for any Melissa student athlete playing a collision sport. This includes volleyball, football, basketball, softball, baseball, soccer and wrestling.
This testing gives the district an additional evaluation tool for concussion management.
Through individualized baseline ImPACT test results, doctors and athletic trainers can make an objective diagnosis based on a student athlete’s skills, and potentially have the child back on the field in a safer manner, and sooner.
