The Melissa High School Powerlifting team traveled to Forney last week and had their best meet of the year. The team brought home a total of six medals, with multiple powerlifters advancing to the regional meet.
Lady Cardinal freshman Silvia Viramontes closed out the year with her first medal at fifth place and her personal best squat of 260 lbs. Priscilla Adejokun and Natalia Cox qualified for the regional powerlifting meet and will compete this Thursday, Feb. 23 in Anna.
The Cardinals brought home five medals. Perry Simpson placed fourth in the 123 lb. class with a total weight of 700 lbs. Josh Chaires placed fourth in the 132 lb. class with a total weight of 855 lbs. Payton Wallace placed fourth in the 181 lb. class with a total of 1100 lbs. Ja’Bray Young placed second in the 198 lb. class with a total weight of 1215 lbs. Breelyn Armstrong placed fourth in the 198 lb. class with a total weight of 1125 lbs.
Regional qualifiers for the Cardinals will be released Monday, Feb. 27.
