The first annual Melissa Homecoming Celebration kicked off this year’s Homecoming festivities Wednesday evening.
Student programs and clubs from Melissa Schools, and local businesses and organizations, rode decorated floats and other vehicles in the first ever Melissa Homecoming parade, while the community lined up along Cardinal Drive to watch.
Helen Browning, a longtime supporter of Melissa Schools, led the parade as the grand marshal, along with board president George James.
The parade line-up featured over 25 groups, including cheerleading, band, volleyball, football, and the 2017 Homecoming Court, to name a few.
Easton Miller and Josie Scribner, Kindergarten Prince and Princess, took first place in the parade’s float competition. Melissa High School Cheerleading took second place, while the 5th and 6th grade football team from the Melissa Youth Sports Association took third.
Other events on Wednesday included tailgating and a community pep rally at Cardinal Stadium.
The Melissa Cardinals take on Lake Worth Bullfrogs at the Homecoming football game this Friday, Sept. 8 at Cardinal Stadium. This year’s Homecoming King and Queen will be announced during pregame festivities, which begin at 7:00 p.m., and kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
