The Melissa High School speech and debate team traveled to a tournament at Wylie High School on Saturday and earned the title of Sweepstakes Champions. Ten students also earned individual accolades.
Justin Berkeland took first in Prose, Duo Interpretation, and Program of Oral Interpretation.
Jacob Gallimore took first in Duo Interpretation, and second in both Prose and Humorous Interpretation.
Ben Coco took second in both Duo Interpretation and Dramatic Interpretation, while Brett Schraeder took second in Duo Interpretation and third in Dramatic Interpretation.
Mason Barnes took second in Poetry and third in Humorous Interpretation.
James Burchett took third in Informative Extemporaneous Speaking.
Kiana Jackson took fourth in Humorous Interpretation.
In Persuasive Extemporaneous Speaking, Hallie Crain took fifth and Anna Gressett took sixth.
Alex Sullivan took sixth in Policy Debate.
The team will compete next at the Berkner tournament from Dec. 8-9.
