The Melissa High School Robotics team competed at the BEST Robotics regional championships at Prosper High School on Saturday Oct. 21 and placed high enough in five divisions to advance to the state tournament.

Students spent several hours planning, building, modifying, and practicing. The team placed in the divisions of Professional Engineering Notebook, Professional Booth & Interview, Professional Presentation, The Robotics Tournament, and Sportsmanship & Spirit.

According to coach Rick Gagarin, BEST Robotics and UIL Robotics allows students to learn about STEM procedures in a real world atmosphere, while allowing them to have fun competing against other teams from schools across the state of Texas.

Gagarin added, “The Melissa Robotics Team would like to thank our engineering sponsors Keith Melcher, Jose Vasquez, and Kelvin Moore, along with our monetary sponsors The Law Office of James L. Rogers, Jr., Lacore Enterprises, LLC, Melissa ISD, and Spirit Stitches & Print.”

The 2017 Texas BEST and UIL State Robotics Championship will be held in Frisco and Richardson from Dec. 7-9.
