Melissa High School Principal Mike Carter has accepted the position of Superintendent with May ISD beginning with the 2016-17 school year.
Carter served as the principal at Melissa High School for the last year. He spoke Wednesday of his time in Melissa.
“I am beyond thankful for the opportunity that I was given to be a part of the Cardinal family,” Carter said. “I have grown tremendously as a leader and a person because of my experiences in Melissa.
I would like to thank Mr. Murphy, Dr. Rich, and the rest of the leadership team that contributed to my growth this past school year.
I would also be amiss if I did not share my appreciation for the love and support I have received from the high school staff, students, and community. I have learned so much from each of you. I look forward to seeing great things from the Cardinal Nation in the years to come.”
Keith Murphy, Superintendent in Melissa, spoke of Carter’s accomplishments at the high school.
“I’m so very happy for Mike and his wife, Cinnamon,” Murphy said. “When we hired Mike, he made it clear that his aspirations were to become a Superintendent, and I can understand that this was a great opportunity for him.
He’s done a great job being the high school principal in Melissa. Our district and that campus have benefited from Mike’s leadership. I wish him well with his move back to West Texas.
I will work closely with our staff to find a quality administrator that will lead Melissa High School as it grows.”
