Lady Cards earn All-District, Academic All-District awards

Nine student-athletes on the Melissa High School Lady Cardinal volleyball team received 2017 All-District honors for District 11-4A, as voted by the coaches of Melissa, Celina, Aubrey, Princeton, Anna, and Aubrey.

Sophomore Caroline Kasson was named Co-MVP. Senior Brittney Melcher was named Defensive Player of the Year. Juniors Charley Lane and Sophia Davis were named First Team. Senior Aubrey Grantham and sophomore Ella Branson were named Second Team. Honorable mentions went to senior Grace Whittington, junior Anna Fortenberry, and freshman KG Matthews.

Additionally, thirteen Lady Cards were named 2017 Academic All-District winners. The criteria for the award requires a grade average of at least 90 percent following the first nine weeks of school.

Academic All-District winners included Sophia Davis, Charley Lane, Cydney Abbott, Hannah Rossell, KG Matthews, Abbey Maldonado, Ella Branson, Caroline Kasson, Anna Fortenberry, Brenna Sheriff, Aubrey Grantham, Brittney Melcher, and Grace Whittington.

On top of their individual achievements, the Lady Cards earned a grade average of 96 percent as a team.
