The Melissa Lady Cardinal Track and Field team tied for 15th, with three student athletes in three events, at the UIL State Track and Field Championships last weekend in Austin.
Senior Priscilla Adejokun won the gold medal in shot put in her second state meet appearance. Adejokun is only the second student athlete in Melissa High School history to do so.
Senior Karrington Lewis finished 8th in the 100m dash in her first state meet appearance.
Senior Maddie Kane ran a season’s best of 45.03 in the 300m hurdles, placing 5th in her fourth state meet appearance.
“The word that comes to my mind immediately is thankful,” said Coach Ted Mackey. “Thankful for having the opportunity to take Priscilla Adejokun, Maddie Kane, and Karrington Lewis to the state meet. Thankful for these young ladies’ willingness to represent our community of Melissa in an excellent way. Thankful for the entire team of Melissa Lady Cardinals Track and Field student athletes and coaching staff. Thankful for our administration, board, parents, and community support.”
