The Melissa High School Cardinal Basketball team played the Aubrey Chaparrals Tuesday night and won 65-62 in double overtime.
After initially being down double-digits, the Cardinals charged back, led by Matt Holloway and Junior Castleberry. Holloway scored 28 points in the game; 25 of which came in the second half.
Kaedric Cobbs came up with a huge bucket in the second overtime to give the Cardinals the final lead of the game. Cole McCraw, Brendon Lewis, and Kennedy Lewis all had a hand in numerous defensive stops and rebounds that put Melissa in a position to win.
Tuesday night’s win secured a second place finish for Melissa in district 11-4A and a spot in the bi-district round of the playoffs. The Cardinals play Ferris High School on Monday, Feb. 20 at Rowlett High School starting at 6:30 p.m.
