Standout students and faculty from throughout Melissa Schools were celebrated during Cardinal Commendations at Monday night’s regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting. Harry McKillop Elementary students Madison Johnson, Ireland Bell, and Jennifer Reynoso opened the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge.

In addition, attendance awards were given out to 3rd grade, 4th grade, 6th grade, and 11th grade, with all attendance rates averaging at above 97 percent for the last month. As a school, Melissa Middle School’s overall attendance came in at 97.70 percent, the highest in the district.

“These attendance percentages are the highest that I’ve ever seen,” said Superintendent Keith Murphy. “This not only represents the physical health of the students in our district, but is also a reflection of each school’s learning environment. This shows us that our kids want to come to school.”
