The Lady Cardinals faced Carrollton Ranchview Friday night in the Regional Quarterfinal round of the soccer playoffs.
The first breakthrough for the Lady Cards came at the twenty-fifth minute with a pass from Lucy Hurst to Hanna Waters, putting Melissa in front. At the start of the second half, the Lady Cards won a free kick near midfield, and Reagan Eichel delivered from 50 yards out. Later, Hurst and Waters combined to score and push the lead to 5-0.
Melissa won 6-0 over Carrollton Ranchview and will advance to the Regional Semifinal on April 12.
The Melissa High School tennis teams traveled to the district tournament last week and brought home a number of wins. The varsity boys’ team won the district championship and the varsity girls’ team took second place overall. The JV teams each won second place.

The regional qualifiers will play next week in Longview, hoping to earn a state trip in May.
The Melissa High School boys’ track and field teams traveled the district meet in Aubrey. The varsity team took the district championship with a total of 192 points, winning by 50 points over Celina. The JV team took fifth place.
Twenty-two Cardinals, in 12 events, advance to the area meet on April 17.
Melissa lost the lead late in a 9-6 defeat to Celina on Tuesday. Despite the loss, the Cardinals did collect 11 hits.
Melissa knotted the game up at six in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sean Turnage hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring one run. Melissa put up three runs in the fifth inning. Jayton Cepica and Dillon Youngblood powered the big inning with RBIs.
Grayson Hurst took the loss for the Cardinals. He lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out five. Trevor Brooks, Dillon Youngblood, and Jayton Cepica all managed multiple hits for the Cardinals.
